Oystress Oracle: is a two stages ritual inviting participants to float in mud and hug the air, it was performed on the Schiermonnikoog Island in the Wadden Sea on July 17th 2025 at 13:00 with a rising tide of 2.2m. This 120min ritual, starting at Bank van Banck into the Wadden area and continuing its second stage across the island from the St. Egbert Kapel to the North Sea, was a procession performed during Catch! Festival 2025.
Materials: Oyster costume, recycled canvas, local raw wool, wooden and glass artefacts. Rising tide of 2.2 m.
This work was made in collaboration with the fluid collective that conforms The Non Human Net. The Oystress Oracle was embedded with knowledge and care from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, ranging from a water management specialist, a doctor, a painter, a mechanic, a dancer and many more.
The performative documentation (photos and moving image) of this work was made by Can Demren, who was invited by The Non Human Net to partake as lens carrier performer. Demren also immersed in mud and carried the wind.
Oystress Oracle was featured by the regional Regional Newspaper Leeuwarder Courant on 19th July 2025.
