Schelde MAGIC / River Ghost is a performative film-making experience in which participants become a temporary documentation crew exploring the underground space of the Ruien. Equipped with sensing tools such as thermal cameras, sound recorders and light, the group collectively searches for traces of the hidden river and its past. The gathered material will be reassembled into a new work for an exhibition by Niel de Vries and Nina Joy-Thielemans

There is a river underground, under our feet, under our seats.
Not flowing as it once did,
but held in pressure, in pipes, in sediment.
A ghost of the Scheldt moves through hidden arches and infrastructures, through the buried canals of the De Ruien, through bodies that walk above it.
This session is a collective excavation to sense it.
"We search for the river, a disturbance in perception as the ghost we can see, feel, hear, smell, imagine."
"I began to feel the walls falling towards me and then when I turned on the radio and found a signal, it all changed. I didn't expect to be able to hear classical music down here, it made it all much more doable."

"I said some bad words in there but I don't really mean it, I found it very fun to use the field recorder"
